West Nile Virus Alert

UPDATE 7/17/2012:

Since West Nile virus (WNV) is popping up all over the Dallas-Ft. Worth metroplex, residents end up placing several calls trying to get to the right place. If you have Denton County residents calling about WNV and aren’t sure where to send them, I have some resources for you:

Denton County West Nile virus hotline: (940)349-2907

Denton County West Nile virus website: www.dentoncounty.com/heart/wnv

The Health Department (specifically our division, HEART) has information on the following:

  • The latest number of human cases in Denton County
  • How to prevent WNV

We can direct residents to the correct location for the following:

  • Standing water problems
  • Mosquito control (e.g. spraying)
  • Dead birds found on property

All of the above information is included on both our hotline and our website, and both are regularly updated. Please help us by giving out these resources to your callers. Pass this information along to your front desk personnel and/or operators, and anyone else you feel would benefit from it.

Thank you, and don’t forget the DEET,
